First up, middle hitter back court setting drill – we’ll work on taking those high sets and placing them in the perfect spot.

Next, middle hitter high ball setting drill – this is all about timing and getting a good read on where the setter is putting the ball.

After that, middle hitter off-speed setting–this requires split-second decisions and being able to recognize the difference between a quick and an off-speed set. To improve this skill, regular drill is necessary.

Back Court Setting

As a middle blocker and hitter, it’s important to have strong setting skills. That’s why I’m gonna give ya’ll some drills for back court setting!

First up is the ‘Reach and Set’ drill. This one has you reaching out with your arms as if you were about to set the ball but instead of actually making contact, just hold that position for 5-10 seconds. After doing this several times in a row, move on to an actual set. Make sure ya keep your head down while keeping good posture so ya, as a middle hitter, can stay balanced when ya make contact with the ball.

Next we got ‘Set and Move’ drill. This one starts off with two blockers and a middle hitter on either side of the net facing each other. One will start by initiating a low or high set depending on what they’re comfortable with, then after hitting the ball over the net, the middle hitter should take 3 quick steps towards the net for a spike before stopping again and returning to resetting position. Keep going like this until everyone gets tired or the coach calls time!

Finally comes my personal favorite: The Ladder Drill – also known as ‘skipping’. Start at one end of the gym and work your way across alternating between sets and skipping forward in small hops while holding onto your balance and keeping your eyes glued ahead of you looking for where you need to go next. This drill is especially beneficial for middle hitters who need to improve their footwork and agility on the court.

It may sound simple but trust me, by the time you get halfway through this drill your calves will be burning! As a middle hitter, you’ll definitely feel the burn.

High Ball Setting

Alright ya’ll, now we’re gonna focus on high setting for the middle hitter. This is when you have to send the ball higher up in the air and farther away from your body than with a low or regular set. It’s important that you keep this one nice and controlled so it doesn’t go too far out of bounds! To improve your high setting skills, make sure to practice this drill regularly.

So first things first, get into position as a middle hitter with your arms stretched wide open like before but make sure they stay straight throughout the drill. Then practice just sending a few balls up at different heights, trying to keep them all within your court area.

Once you feel comfortable enough with the drill, take two steps back and try again – this time aiming for further distances as well! As a middle hitter, make sure to land square on both feet after each hit and reset quickly if necessary.

Keep drilling until everyone, including the middle hitter, gets tired or the coach calls it quits!

Off-Speed Setting

Alright, now that we got the high setting down, let’s move on to off-speed sets. This requires you to really slow your movements and control the ball with an arcing trajectory. You should also practice sending the ball over different parts of the court – from middle back to diagonals or straight ahead!

Start by standing in a balanced position and make sure both arms are outstretched like before. Then take it slow and use short steps as you approach the ball while keeping your eyes focused on where you want it to go.

When ready, slightly flick your wrists at contact for a softer hit and aim higher than normal as this will help create more arc on the set.

If done correctly, you’ll be able to send some sneaky off-speed sets across the net without anyone seeing it coming! Keep practicing until everyone masters this technique or coach calls time.
